Toby Ng - The World of 100

Have you ever asked yourself, what would the World look like as a small community of 100 people? Probably not. However, it is something to think about, as the reality would be startling - as much as you’d think so, the village would only have 7 computers, and only 1 person in the World Village would be educated at University level.

These facts are something that designer Toby Ng has thought about very carefully, and turned the results of his findings into a series of twenty infographics depicting ‘The World of 100’. Although aesthetically beautiful, with sharp lines and bold, vibrant colours, these infographics are often horrifying.

The posters look as though they have come straight out of a children’s book; is this to mirror the naivety of those that are most likely to be looking at them on their computers?

“Look, this is the World we are living in.”

- Toby Ng

My Lady Nicotine. A study in smoke J.M. Barrie. Boston: Joseph Knight Co., 1896 (© 1895).
First American edition of one of the great classics of smoking literature, in a beautiful decorated publisher’s binding. This ode to the incomparable joys of tobacco was written by Barrie, best known as the creator of Peter Pan; the humorous tales of the pleasures and pitfalls of dedicated smoking are recounted by one who has married and “quit” but still dreams of the bachelor days with pipe, the cigarette, and the cigar, all three. Here they are for the first time illustrated by American Impressionist painter Maurice B. Prendergast, who supplied a profusion of winsome, smoke-wreathed sketches and scenes for this, one of only two books he illustrated himself.

I love snow, but not the cold or the icey aftermath. But it is stunning while it lasts.

New Project Excitement!! CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOK STORY NEEDED!!

I’ve just started a new module in which I am going to enter the Macmillian Picture Book Competition but I need a story. I have the option of writing my own, using a story that is out of copyright (like a fairytale) or working with a writer. I would really love to work with a writer, and create an original and relavent book with a dark nature. The book needs to be about 32 pages long and aimed for children between the age of dot to 8. If you are interested or know anyone who may be please get them in contact. Would be very much appreciated. Liz x
